The Prospect

Strong Scouting Introduction

Kyla Bear is a 5'4" Class of 2028 point guard at Kiowa High School in Oklahoma who brings an aggressive, competitive approach to girls basketball. Bear also competes with Tulsa JYD Basketball, giving her opportunities to develop against quality grassroots competition while continuing to grow as a lead guard.

Bear has already produced several performances that demonstrate her ability to impact games in multiple ways. A career high 35 point performance included nine rebounds and five steals, while another notable outing produced 18 points and nine steals. Those numbers highlight both her scoring upside and her ability to create disruption defensively.

Previously at Stuart High School, Bear earned Pitt 8 All Conference recognition. Her early production and recognition make her an intriguing Oklahoma prospect in the 2028 recruiting class.

At approximately 5'4", continued development will be essential. Bear will need to maximize quickness, perimeter shooting, ball security, decision making and defensive discipline as the competition becomes bigger and more physical. The encouraging part is that she already displays competitiveness, confidence and defensive activity, giving her a strong foundation for continued evaluation.

Athleticism / Physical Tools

Functional Tools For The Backcourt

Bear's physical profile is built more around quickness, activity and competitive energy than positional size. At approximately 5'4", she will regularly encounter bigger guards, making speed, change of direction, balance and anticipation increasingly important.

Her rebounding and steal production indicate that she does not allow her size to prevent her from competing physically. She can create value by staying active around the basketball, applying pressure and turning defensive activity into additional possessions.

Continued strength and explosiveness development should enhance her ability to finish around length, absorb contact, defend stronger guards and maintain effectiveness as the level of competition increases.

DEVELOPMENT

Areas For Improvement

  • Improve perimeter shooting consistency
  • Strengthen assist turnover efficiency
  • Continue developing physical strength
  • Refine half court decisions
  • Improve finishing through contact
  • Expand change of pace
  • Develop consistent scoring efficiency
  • Continue improving defensive discipline

COLLEGE PROJECTION

A Developing Lead Guard Prospect

Kyla Bear remains early in the evaluation process as a Class of 2028 prospect, making a specific college level projection premature. Her current profile gives coaches several areas worth monitoring, particularly her competitiveness, defensive disruption, scoring production and development as a true point guard.

Because of her size, future evaluation should focus heavily on shooting efficiency, decision making, ball security, quickness and her ability to consistently create advantages against bigger and more athletic guards.

Her next two high school seasons and continued grassroots competition should provide a much clearer picture of her eventual college projection.

The Al Woods Evaluation

Competitive. Disruptive. Developing.

Kyla Bear is the type of young point guard I would continue watching because there are competitive qualities in her game that cannot simply be measured by height. The scoring performances attract attention, but her defensive production may ultimately be just as important. A guard producing five steals in one game and nine in another is consistently finding ways to disrupt opponents.

The next stage is refinement. Bear must continue developing her perimeter shooting, decision making, strength and command of the point guard position. At 5'4", there will be little margin for weaknesses as the competition becomes bigger and faster.

What makes Bear interesting at this stage is that she already competes. Skills can continue developing. Strength can improve. Shooting can become more consistent. The competitive mentality has to be present first, and Bear appears to possess that foundation.

She is a 2028 Oklahoma guard who deserves continued evaluation as her game develops.

Final Evaluation

A Prospect Worth Continued Evaluation

Kyla Bear is an intriguing Class of 2028 point guard whose competitiveness, scoring ability and defensive activity provide a strong foundation for continued development. Her size makes skill refinement especially important, particularly shooting, ball security, decision making and finishing against length. Bear has already demonstrated the ability to produce significant offensive numbers while creating turnovers defensively. Continued development through Kiowa High School and Tulsa JYD competition should provide important opportunities to evaluate her long term college potential.
