AAU Basketball Is Draining Family Wallets

AAU basketball has turned into a full-blown money machine, and parents are the ones getting crushed under the weight of it.

Families are draining savings accounts just so their kids can chase exposure and opportunities that were once earned through hard work, toughness, and endless hours on public courts.

Between team fees, tournament admissions, hotels, gas, parking, meals, uniforms, and nonstop travel, the financial burden has become ridiculous.

Youth basketball was supposed to be about development. Instead, it has become a business model built on squeezing every possible dollar out of working families.

Some parents are forced to choose between paying household bills or keeping their child involved in the AAU circuit.

That is not growth.

That is exploitation.

There was a time when players earned respect in neighborhood parks, battling older and tougher competition every single day.

Those games built grit, confidence, and real basketball instincts for free. Now that culture is disappearing while overpriced tournaments dominate the landscape.

AAU basketball still provides exposure, but the rising costs are pushing many talented kids out before they ever get a fair shot.

That should concern everyone involved in the sport.
