Today is Tennis Day

December 11 is the perfect day,
To let you in on what I have to say.

My main goal in 2011,
Is to create a TENNIS HEAVEN.

We’re going to make THE difference,
YOU are going to help at my insistence.

Instead of taking what you can for yourself,
Together let’s put tennis on the top shelf.

We’re going to make TENNIS number 1,
We’re going to make it way better for EVERY one!

Now I want YOU to play your part,
Everyone come on and open your tennis heart.

What I want you to do,
Is pitch in with as much as YOU can do.

Now what I plan to do,
Is take on each issue and follow it through.

Anything that is less than ideal,
We’re going to reveal.

Anything that is letting our great game down,
We’re going to change it until it deserves a crown.

If we ALL act in the best interests of tennis,
The game we love will return to the zenith.

Make today and everyday, tennis day!

It was 30 years ago today: Memories of John Lennon

Sitting in a dimly lit ballroom/press room at Disney, it's important to remember that Wednesday, December 8, marks the 30th anniversary of the death of John Lennon, shot by a deranged fan in front of his Dakota apartment building on a sidewalk in New York City.

I was an attendee at the winter meetings that week in 1980 in Dallas in my role as Expos PR man. Just 24 hours earlier I had asked my wife to marry me at the lobby bar of the Anatole Hotel. She had just flown in from Montreal. The next night, driving back from dinner, I was chilling in a taxi with Debbie, my fiancee, and with hockey hall-of-famer Michael Farber, the baseball beat writer for the Gazette. The cab radio played a seemingly unending succession of Beatles songs, no announcer, no breaks. When we asked the driver why, he explained Lennon had been shot and killed. The reaction was one of stunned silence. Coincidentally as we continued on in deep thought we were within several blocks of Dealey Plaza where another of my childhood heroes had been assassinated 17 years earlier. It's one of those moments you always remember. Lennon's words still resonate, still are important.

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Photo Finish: One Packers Fan Had A…Unique Way To Stay Warm Today (Photo)

If one were to single out a visually odd aspect of today’s Packers-Niners game at Lambeau Field (won by the Packers 34-16), one might go with the Packers’ throw(way, way)back jerseys. And yes, those jerseys were very…noteworthy (also, hideous).

But maybe the most bizarre sighting…the fan above, sporting what appears to be, as CNBC’s Darren Rovell tweeted, an entire fox on his head. We’ve all heard of coonskin caps, but this is really taking things to a new, looks-like-he-just-stole-an-unfinished-project-from-a-taxidermist-and-started-wearing-it level. But hey, if it helps you stay warm, then…NOOOOOOOOOO WHY WOULD YOU HARM THIS MAGNIFICENT CREATURE WHY WHY WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Credit for the outstanding shot above goes to Ryan Van Haren, who uploaded it to his Flickr page and gave us the…experience of seeing it.
