Which one of these buttons calls Bill Belichick’s mom to pick him up?

There’s not much more one can say about the splendid cover of today’s New York Post, so we opted for a reference to one of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog’s finer moments. [via NY Post]

ESPN Announcer Whose Mic Was Accidentally Left On: “My God, These Are the Longest Games Ever”

ESPN announcers Mike Tirico, Ron Jaworski, and Jon Gruden are apparently a very chatty and broey bunch. That much we learned during a commercial break on Monday night’s Orange Bowl, when the three announcers’ microphones were left on during a commercial break.

Nobody Can Believe These Virginia Tech Uniforms (Photos)

Boise State is playing Virginia Tech right now. It’s a huge game, the signature matchup of college football’s opening weekend…and all anyone can talk about are the teams’ (especially VT’s) Nike Pro Combat uniforms.

This is what Virginia Tech looks like for an average home game. This (image also at left) is how they look tonight. A pretty radical difference – and to say people noticed would be an understatement. Let’s take a spin around Twitter, shall we?

Sports Illustrated’s Stewart Mandel was early on the “holy crap, these threads are crazy” train, tweeting well before the game started:

Virginia Tech’s unis defy explanation. I thought I showed up at an Oregon State game.

We see what he means. And Mandel wasn’t done…and apparently, wasn’t much of a fan of either team’s getup:

So, Virginia Tech’s uniforms are black, and Boise’s have no orange. $ $ $ > school colors

And hey, speaking of money…what did CNBC’s sports business guru, Darren Rovell, think? Well…

Nike changed the unis so much for this game I feel like I’m watching “Any Given Sunday”

Not exactly two ringing endorsements. Then there’s Dan Shanoff:

Virginia Tech’s alt uniforms look like they are sponsored by “Tron: Legacy”

And if you didn’t believe him about the Tron thing, well: check it. And for an example of what people are talking about with the Tron comparisons, check this. Again, hard to argue.

So we’ve established that the uniforms got people talking, but did anyone actually like them? In at least one high-profile case, the answer is a resounding yes. From the mind of one LeBron James:

Man them V-Tech uni’s they wearing tonight are off the chain!! Wowzers

He wasn’t done, either:

Big shout out to Nike Football for dressing this game. Best dressed game ever!!

And let’s not forget my high school classmate Ian Cohen was also a fan:

oh damn, the new VT uniforms are baller.

Rovell noted the fact that LeBron and Nike are, shall we say, rather entangled. Of course, it is amusing that LeBron happened to have such kind words for the brand that’s made him even more wealthy than he would be otherwise, but we have to compliment Nike as well: their uniforms certainly caused a stir. And that – not popular opinion, which may well vindicate them also – is what it’s all about.

As for the uniforms’ effect on VT on the field…they fell behind 17-0 early. So much for Pro Combat inspiration. After the jump: photos of the uniforms, so you can see for yourself if you’re not watching the game (which we recommend…again, fine matchup).

These are the kinds of things I like to hear from Hightower. Ro always said that Dont’a is ready to do what he’s gotta do to be a great one. He has the tools, no doubt. If he gets his mind right, lookdafukout….

Shawn Bradley, still stylin’ after all these years

Right now you’re probably justifiably asking yourself, “What in the hell is this?” Well, these are the Jimmer Jammers. The Jimmer Jammers are what we call a “music supergroup” whose primary focus is to pay tribute to BYU basketball player,…
