Photo: Cut those sideburns, Robinson Cano!

Robinson Cano had a great 2010 season. He hit .319/.381/.534 with 29 homers and 109 RBI, placed third in the AL MVP voting and led the entire New York Yankees team in WAR with 6.1. In terms of offseason improvement, there’s not much he has to work on.   But the beard …

Nate Robinson Models the New “Cat Mink Fur” Shaq Bought Him

Nate Robinson looks half 50 Cent, half Zsa Zsa Gabor as he models this “cat mink fur” coat he received as a gift from Celtics teammate Shaquille O’Neal.  I don’t know if it’s a coat made of cat and mink fur, or some hybrid, as yet unknown “cat mink” animal culled from the isle of Dr. Moreau.  Either way, it’s pretty sharp, in a gaudy without being tasteful kind of way. And a second, even better picture, thanks once again [...]

Penn State Lands Allen Robinson – Verbal #7

Give me another wide receiver and a siren WHOOOOOO

Two days after Penn State landed their sixth verbal commitment in Matt Zanellato, they land another verbal commitment from another wide receiver. This time it’s Allen Robinson from Orchard Lake, MI.

Robinson is a former high school teammate of current Nittany Lion Robert Bolden. He stands 6’3″ and reportedly weighs 190 lbs. Rivals and Scout both rank him as a three star prospect. As a senior, Robinson caught 39 passes for 653 yards and 8 TD.

Robinson held offers from Buffalo, Toledo, and Minnesota which will undoubtedly lead some people to ask, “How is this kid going to help us beat Ohio State?” Well, I don’t know, but then I don’t know how any kid is going to help us beat anyone. But there are possible explanations for why Robinson didn’t get noticed on the recruiting trail. For one thing, he had a late growth spurt from when he was a 5’7″ 125 lb freshman, so schools were late to take notice of him. He also had issues with poor ACT scores he had to get up. Apparently he made the grade there because Penn State just offered him on Saturday morning.

Keep in mind too that Bolden didn’t have eye popping stats for a quarterback in high school. They ran an offense heavily slanted toward the running game there, so Robinson’s stats are also not that impressive. But you have to figure while Penn State was scouting Bolden all those hours, they couldn’t help but see the guy he was throwing to in all that tape. So obviously the coaches got a good look at him, and they must have liked what they saw.

At this point with a small class and two receivers in the books, it’s reasonable to assume Penn State is done recruiting at the position. They had to replace Brett Brackett and Graham Zug in this class, and I’d say they got two guys that compare pretty well. You might even say they are an upgrade considering Brackett came to Penn State as a quarterback and Zug was a walk on.

But for tonight, let’s give Allen a big Penn State welcome. Here’s what you’ve won.
