Could the NCAA Place Restrictions on College Recruiting Services?

The NCAA is a dictatorship but more importantly the governing body for all of college sports.  Is it possible that the NCAA could place restrictions on college recruiting services that help student athletes gain exposure to college programs?

The NCAA just recently placed serious restrictions on college recruiting websites where college programs have to pay a subscription price to view videos of the student athletes.

I think because the NCAA is not profiting from what recruiting services are doing or what some recruiting websites are doing, it is possible that they could try to eliminate the use of recruiting services all together.

I believe how the elimination of recruiting services would be done is first the NCAA could say that any high school student athlete associated with a college recruiting service would be deemed ineligible.  It could happen because of the total control the NCAA wants to have over all sports.  The high school state associations would also have to agree with the NCAA on restrictions with college recruiting services.

College recruiting services do offer value to high school student athletes and parents and there are many different opinions about using recruiting services. Regardless of what your opinion is, my opinion is that without a good college recruiting service many high school student athletes will slip through the cracks of the college recruiting process.  Without a college recruiting service many high school student athletes may not ever get a chance to go to college.

The entire world of high school and college athletics is changing all the time; there are new rules and restrictions and there’s also corrupt individuals who ruin it for the good people who try to make a difference in the lives of high school student athletes.

Who really controls college sports? Is it the NCAA or the college presidents?  I believe a situation could occur one day where the top 50 major college programs could form their own league separate from the NCAA.  It is highly probable a new league could be formed with new rules and regulations to better serve the high school athletes and parents who are ready for college sports and who are looking to get a college education while playing their sport.

College recruiting services exist for a reason and I think it would be a step backwards if the NCAA were to place restrictions on college recruiting services.  Maybe the NCAA should sanction college recruiting services just like they do with AAU events or football camps or baseball showcases.  If the NCAA recognizes college recruiting services, then this would eliminate all of the bad recruiting services that exists and the good ones could better serve high school student athletes and parents.

Recruiting service database: good or bad?

There are a lot of college recruiting services database where you post your athletic profile with your picture, some biographical information, stats and maybe a video all in the hopes that a college coach will scroll through the millions of names on some of the sites and happen upon your profile.

In my opinion, these services offer little in help. They do not offer consulting where the college recruiter would give advice to the athletes and the parents on the step by step process of college recruiting so, therefore, the services have no real value.

You basically get what you pay for and many of these recruiting database services are free and so they have nothing to gain by helping you get into college–they have nothing to lose either.

The college recruiting process is exactly that; it’s a process and information used to be shared on how the process can best work for the student athlete and their parents and again, the college recruiting database offer no one-on-one contact with the recruiter, does not even offer a phone call or any personal interaction.

Don’t waste your time subscribing to these worthless and useless college recruiting database services.

Many of the coaches who are scrolling through the thousands of names on these lists are basically no level college programs who more than likely do not offer scholarships anyway.

For as long as I can remember, there has been college recruiting services in one form or fashion.  The real question is: what are the advantages of using a college recruiting service?  The answer to that question is simple: exposure to college coaches on a daily basis.

College recruiting services have the ability to contact a huge number of college coaches on a consistent basis or, if you prefer, a more targeted group of college coaches can be contacted for high school student athletes.

College recruiting services has the time to network with college coaches than a high school coach or a parent who may not have the available time, resources or networking skills.

Another critical advantage of using a college recruiting service is having someone working with you behind the scenes, providing you with critical advice and information on how the college recruiting process can work on your behalf.

Some college recruiting services charge a fee. Many out there are against the idea of charging kids for the opportunity to get placed in college but that is not how it really is; the cost is the process of doing business and the parents are the ones who are paying for this.

The negative side of college recruiting services is that many charge a lot of money for their services and some of these recruiting services are lacking in experience.

If you want quality, no matter what form it is, you will have to pay for it; that’s how it is with all college recruiting services.

I would bet that if you talked to a thousand high school players, all of them would say that they’d like to play at a college somewhere.

The problem is recruiting.

In the college recruiting process, many parents and high school student athletes leave it all up to the high school coach.

The high school coach is there to coach that sport. It’s up to the parents and the student athletes to figure out what direction they should go in recruiting; what methods they should use for college recruiting.

There are a huge number of high school athletes out there who are not being recruited for college right now, and most of them will just be college students. Their playing career is now over. Do you want this to happen to you? Without having the right plan in place, you will end up without a college program.

Recruiting is about exposure.

The more college programs that know about what you can do over and over again are the ones that will recruit you. The more information a college program has on you, the more they can recruit you. The more they see your name on their list of players to be recruited by college programs then the more chances that they will recruit you. If college programs like what they see in you they will make an offer to you.

Recruiting, Recruiting, Recruiting.
