Mark Cuban on Nets Owner Mikhail Prokhorov: “He’s a P—y.”

Oh yes he did—he most certainly did.

The New Jersey Nets were in town to face the Dallas Mavericks, which gave Mavs owner Mark Cuban the opportunity to fire a few salvos at his Nets counterpart, Mikhail Prokhorov.  And trust me, Cuban, in his usual douchebag outspoken way, doesn’t hold anything back.

Cuban goes big right from the get go, and lets it all hang out.

“He’s a p—y,” Cuban quipped Thursday when asked about Prokhorov.

Wow.  For those of you who might not understand, Cuban was referring to a slang term for female genitalia.  Definitely not a term of endearment, that’s for sure.  Well, in some circles it is, but not this time.

The Mikhail Torrance Fund

Mikhail Torrance’s agent, Happy Walters tweeted some excellent news today:

Mikhail is up and walkin’ on his own. Not yet able to speak, but is communicating with smiles and emotion. He’s eating small portions of food… He has a long road ahead of him and many hours of rehab in the future. 

The former Alabama basketball standout has been hospitalized since Aug. 20 after collapsing during a workout at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. According to Walters, Mikhail has been moved out of ICU into a private room. He’s showing progress but it has been slow going.

What is becoming clear is Mikhail’s medical expenses — both for his hospitalization as well as the extensive rehabilitation that he must undergo — are going to be expensive and a significant financial burden on his family. To help defray the costs, a fund has been established thorugh The Tuscaloosa Tip-Off Club, non-profit booster club made up of Alabama basketball fans from the Tuscaloosa area. 

The Tuscaloosa Tip Off Club is a registered charity working through the university. Walters says donations of any amount will be greatly appreciated. They can be sent to the following address:

Some encouraging news about former UA basketball star Mikhail Torrance from his agent Happy Walters. (the second tweet said “…wake up sooner rather than later. Doctors are taking it slowly.”)

Torrance, who had previously been diagnosed with a heart condition, collapsed Friday while training at the IMG Basketball Academy in Bradenton, Florida. He was taken to intensive care and doctors induced a coma while evaluating his brain function.

The positive CT suggests that even if there was a lack of oxygen to his brain for a period of time, it wasn’t sufficient to cause damage. That said, nothing is for sure at this point and Mikhail has a long way to go to get out of the woods but this is certainly the most encouraging news we’ve had since Friday.

Former Alabama player Mikhail Torrance collapsed at a workout Friday and was taken to Blake Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Fla., a source confirmed to ESPN.

He was transferred to the intensive care unit at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and was in critical condition, breathing with the aid of a ventilator.

Anthony Grant said it best: “Our thoughts and prayers are with (Mikhail) and his family at this very difficult time. I want Mikhail and his family to know that his teammates, coaches and the entire university community are praying for his full recovery.”

BRADENTON, FLA — Mikhail Torrance, former University of Alabama basketball star who recently signed a contract to play professionally in Israel, was rushed to a hospital after collapsing at the start of a workout today. He was unconscious while being rushed to nearby Blake Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Fla.

Torrance was on the court at the IMG Basketball Academy. He has been transferred to the Intensive Care Unit at nearby Sarasota Memorial Hospital. A spokesperson said the hospital could not release any information on Torrance’s condition. A spokesperson from IMG has not returned a phone message.

Torrance was only five minutes into a light workout of shooting when he suddenly collapsed, hitting his head on the floor when he fell.

Several trainers came to his aid immediately. Paramedics arrived on the scene soon afterward, and continued trying to revive him. Torrance soon stopped breathing, and he was taken by stretcher to a nearby hospital while paramedics continued giving him CPR.

This doesn’t sound good at all.

Word is that Torrance went undrafted this year despite being rated by most scouts as a late-first or early-second round pick because of a heart condition Torrance himself called “athlete’s heart”, a type of enlarged heart.

Torrance has spent most of his time since the end of his senior season working out at the IMG Academy in Florida, first preparing for the NBA Draft, and later preparing to travel overseas to play professionally in Israel, something he was apparently continuing today.

Let’s keep Torrance and his family in our thoughts today and hope this isn’t as bad as it sounds.
