When Disney made it clear that they would be taking advantage of the wide breadth of characters available to them with their purchase of Marvel, they weren’t kidding.
And the latest developments from ABC surely have proven it.
Announced last week, ABC is moving forward with a brand new television series for the classic comic book character The Incredible Hulk.
Last seen on TV in the 1980s, with the classic Bill Bixby live action program, this relaunch of the Hulk on television has two major creative titans backing it – filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro (Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth) and producer David Eick (Battlestar Galactica).
No stranger to monsters, Del Toro adds this new series featuring the green titan to a heavy slate taken on since his departure from directing The Hobbit, but if he’s needing a partner to make the show shine, there’s no better choice than Eick, who between Galactica, The Bionic Woman and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys has quite a history at reinventing characters for a new generation.
While the details on the show are understandably low, there is still at this time no information as to how, if at all, the TV series will connect to the theatrical interpretation of the Hulk, which currently rests on the shoulders of actor Marc Ruffalo, making his debut as Bruce Banner in 2012′s The Avengers.
Any way you look at it, this is an exciting time to be a comics fan, and I cannot wait to see how this all pans out.
