Don Lemon interviewed Little League pitcher Chelsea Baker, she of the vicious knuckle ball and two perfect games. And somehow, Lemon found a way to be kind of a dick to her.
First, a note: interviewing kids is probably a tough job. They are oftentimes nervous and monosyllabic, unwilling to go beyond “good” and “fun” in describing things that happen to them.
Now, another note: for a kid, Chelsea Baker is a decent interviewee. Sure, she generally looks like she’d rather be doing fun kid stuff than getting interviewed on CNN. But still, her responses were pretty good for an 11 year old.
With that in mind, there’s something a bit dickish about Lemon’s line of questioning, particularly the part where Chelsea says she feels “honored and blessed to be there,” and then Lemon blurts out “You do?!”
