2011 Outback Bowl Picks: Penn State vs. Florida

The 2010 Outback Bowl is a very intriguing match-up between a pair of head coaches that have great resumes if their careers were to end today. Nike Unveils The New Pro Combat Uniforms for Oregon, Boise State, Florida

Looks like Christmas came early for college football fans, especially those who follow Oregon, Boise State and Florida, because Nike unveiled the team’s new Pro Combat uniforms that they will be wearing in their respective bowl games.

And I have to say, they are…underwhelming.  Seriously, other than the pretty boss pattern on the undershirts, the new uni’s get a great big meh from me.

Judge for yourself…

Boise State will sport these on December 22 in the Las Vegas Bowl.  Props on the shoes.

Florida will wear this yawn-inducing number on January 1 in the Champs Sports Bowl.  I doubt even Tim Tebow could have made this outfit interesting.

DING!  DING!  DING!  We have a winner!  Now this is more like it.  Sure the jersey and pants aren’t all that hot, but check out those socks/shoes.  It’s like someone took a radioactive piss all over the Oregon player’s legs and feet.  Of course these are the Ducks we’re talking about, a team that is no stranger to hideous uniforms.  Thanks to these ensembles, the BCS National Championship game, if not exciting, will at least be iridescent.

Recap: Siena 72, Florida Atlantic 69

The Saints, led by their senior leaders, managed to hold on to their first home win of the 2010-11 season over Florida Atlantic 72-69 at the Times Union Center Monday night.

While the Siena seniors led with big numbers, it was sophomore Jonathan Breeden sealed the game with two free throws with 4.2 seconds to go to give the Saints the win.

The Saints watched a double digit lead evaporate to two points with just under one minute left. Breeden, who lost control of the ball near the Saints bench, was bailed out by a foul with 20.3 seconds to go. He made his second free throw, after missing the first, to give the Saints a three point lead.

Preseason MAAC Player of the Year Ryan Rossiter battled for 8 first half rebounds and scored 13 points against FAU’s big men, led the Saints on an 8-0 run to take a 10-point lead in the first half. Rossiter’s 25th point, a layup with under nine minutes to play gave the Saints an 11-point lead.

Rossiter, coming off an outing against the Stags where he scored a season-low 7 points, delivered in big time fashion. His 27 points marks the fifth time this season Rossiter has scored 26 points or more. Rossiter led the Saints with a team-high 13 rebounds.

Rossiter and sophomore O.D. Anosike had an uphill battle against the Texas native Brett Royster, who had a game-high 7 blocks. Royster now has 12 blocks in his last 2 games. Anosike managed 7 points inside after he was held scoreless against Fairfield Friday night.

Clarence Jackson got going for the Saints, scoring 20 points on 8 of 19 shooting. Jackson’s three point play with 5:53 to go gave the Saints a 15-point lead and control of the game over the Owls.

Kyle Downey, in his third game of the season, came back and established himself in the Saints rotation. Downey grabbed crucial rebounds late and scored 8 points on 3 of 7 shooting.

The Saints cut their turnover margin on Monday night, turning the ball over 10 times compared to 17 times on friday night. Freshman Rakeem Brookins, who dished out 3 assists, was held scoreless for the first time in his Saints career. He would later foul out with about a minute remaining.

Greg Gantt led the Owls with 15 points on 6 of 13 shooting from the floor.

The Saints avoided their first four-game losing streak in six years.
