After Marvin Miller came within one vote of making the Hall of Fame, there were naturally some questions about who said nay. Miller himself discussed the matter with Murray Chass, the former New York Times writer who now, in semi-retirement, publishes what he calls “columns” on his own “web site.” Miller passed a rumor to [...]

Big Ten Network archiving best of Gus Johnson’s calls online
A super-duper easy call from the Big Ten Network, which quietly let us know last week that it would be archiving, with video, the best of Gus Johnson on its website.
Johnson recently was assigned a heavier load of college hoops games in the wake of the MSG Network not renewing his contract. (What a dumb move, but I love that MSG Network was so short-sighted.) So in calling more Big Ten games, the conference’s network is servicing all fans who aren’t against the grain in their preference of high-octane, entertaining announcers.
(Refresher: In case you missed it, I had Johnson on the CHJ Podcast in March. Give it a listen.)
Does Gus get watered down with more exposure? I think that’s an Internet post/column you may say pop up come March. I’m fully prepared to retort each and every one, should a writer or two try and crap all over Johnson’s parade.
Back to his calls. You can find the best here. Right now, it’s nothing too incredible, but it’s something to bookmark. There’s already been a half-court prayer answered right before the half in Indiana. The Law of Gus is something that can’t be restricted to one sport or frequency of games he calls.
Lastly, this is just another reasonable excuse to link you to the 365-day greatness that is the Gus Johnson Soundboard.
