Somehow, Craig Carse managed to win 17 basketball games this season at division three Harlan Simmons University. During the previous seasons Carse struggled to win any games so now he’s showing some improvements. Any coach who has half a brain could win 17 games at this ridiculously low level of college basketball. I don’t even coach basketball and I could win 17 games. Coach Carse is still a joke of a basketball coach.

C'mon Man!! You don't coach and you could win 17 games. Are you for real?
Make no mistake 17 wins is an accomplishment but I would think any coach from division one or division II could win that many games at the division three level. I could come in and coach that team to as many victories or more. We’re talking division three basketball who could not come in and win games right away. There are some very talented high school programs that could easily beat a division III basketball programs. So this Carse guy has not done anything impressive. Had he won the conference championship or a division III National Championship that would be a different story. This guy is a joke of a coach he always has been an he always will be.
My son is playing at Hadin Simmons with coach Carse. I would like to know what kind of facts do you have to back up your negativity towards Coach Carse? You stated you played for him in 1980- how do we know you are not a disgruntled player? These are really harsh accusations and statements towards this coach. Where is your proof? to enable my son to make a decision. It is my opinion that you sound extremely angry and bitter. What happened?
A lot has happened not only to me but too many of my former teammates and to other players who were misled by this so-called coach. The list of facts is too long to mention here but believe me when I tell you, this man is lucky that some of his former players did not go upside his head.
What I can tell you is I’ve heard from many ex teammates other players from his program in Montana and even a few coaches who all feel the same as I do about Carse. If your son is happy playing basketball for Carse then congratulations.
It is definitely quite apparent to me that lots has happened to you and other players with this coach. What i was asking of you is to at least give me one example of how he has misled his players. As i stated in my previous message my son plays for this team-he is actually the leading score, steals and assist. He has not had any problems thus far. I need to know, when you state "mislead" do you mean he is possibly making promises he can't or won't keep. Please try to understand my point-this is my son who is playing his heart, soul, emotions and physically out for this team.
I write to you out of concern for my son and nothing more. If there is any example of "mislead" that you can provide I will greatly appreciate it. I understand D3 is a step up from High School;however, this is a real put down and discouragement for all players at a d3 school. This is a comment you have stated periodically. As you know, Juco,d2 and d3 might be the only possible op[tions for some of these kids. They are already feeling down and I dont believe that statement would help lift them up> I have seen d3 players that are d1 material and for whaatever reason/s can't play for the best of the best. At this point, i just need for you to elaborate a little more on your accusations. You mention other players feel the same way but I am only hearing from you. If all this is true I want to thank you for the heads up. I am looking forward to your reply, thank you.
Like I said before I really don’t want to describe specifics about this coach. The most important thing is that you are keeping a close eye on your son’s athletic career which is an extremely important. I don’t mean to put down the fact of division III basketball but this coach has never been a head coach at division one or could never get a division two coaching job in his home state of West Virginia. This coach was an assistant at LSU and was fired. I think your son will be okay because you are playing an active role in his career. Maybe at some point I will get into the details about Carse. I have no anger or bitterness I just want others to be careful when dealing with this man. If it was up to me I would have him working in a car wash 18 hours a day.
Let me ask you a question, you must have some concerns about Carse because somehow you found this blog post about this man. If this man made promises to your son in my opinion that could be the first warning sign. If your son is happy playing basketball there then leave it alone but keep your eyes open to everything, and I mean everything with that program.
Yes, i absolutelly have concerns about anyone/anything associated with my son-if he had a dog, I'd google it. Also, i used the making promise comment as an example not a fact. I do thank you for your input and I pray that you will be able to forgive whatever happen between you and Mr. Carse. It is my opinion that whatever happened definitely affected you enough to attack this man character. It is my desire that some day in the future you will personally confront him face to face and get all issues resolved.
I am a firm believer of what's in the dark will come to light; therfore the truth will be known on both parts sooner or later. Once again, thank you for the heads up. I wish you the best in your future endeavours. I hope you never hear from me again because if you do its to inform you that you were right. Thank you for your reply although i was unable to get my questions answer by you- ur warning is not taken lightly, though.
There are a lot of people who played basketball for this man and if they could they would kick ass. For how he misled players and tried to ruin careers. I am not the only one who feels this way about Carse there are many others who have the same opinion as I do but do not have a place where they can voice their opinion like I do. I can only speak for my experience dealing with Carse. All I can tell you is to keep a close eye on everything that goes on with that program. Carse knows that I’ve been writing about him for the last three or four years now. This man is fully aware of how I feel about the things he has done as a basketball coach. No disrespect to the coaches at division three but why is Carse even at that level if he is suppose to be this so-called good coach. I think now that Carse knows that I’m paying attention to what he’s doing he may not try to mess up anyone’s athletic career. And as far as meeting him face to face to discuss would ever happen way back in the past it wouldn’t be a good idea. Good luck to you and your son at that program.
Well I think that as a journalist you should not have personal issue sway your thoughts unless you have personally dealt with Coach. I played for Coach Carse from 1996-1998. I have never come across anyone that played for Coach Carse that did not have HONOR and truthfullness in there heart. Yeah the people that did dishonest things or tried to be dishonest by going against the rules that were laid down probably are the people you are talking about. Yes Coach Carse is about Discipline, and about TEAM and about Family. H.I.T (Hard Intelligent Together) that was our motto. I personally thank Coach Carse for being apart of my life, and about teaching me about FAMILY and TEAM and HONOR. Maybe those words are a punch line to you. But for me and the rest of the Players that made the choice to play for him. WE THANK HIM!!!!!!
I have personally had dealings with this man! And a large number of other players have the same feelings as I do about this man. There was a reason why he was fired at LSU maybe you should give him a call and ask him. There is a reason that a large number of players do not like him you should call him up and ask him why. There is a reason that man has never been a head coach at a division one college basketball program.
Mr. Woods, there is no doubt in my mind that something happened, otherwise you woudn't be so persistent in saying so for so long. I just hope it doesn't happen with my son-because it will be the last time it will happen. Fortunately my son has a great, strong support system consisting of two parents, brothers, sister, elementary, middle, high school teachers and a local politician in this area. I also believe that you making others aware of the situation at hand will make anyone think before they do it again to anyone else. keep it up! you never know who you are helping by putting it out there. It would be better if you elaborated a bit but since you are not ready for that we have to take your word at it. Regardless, it appears you have done well for yourself and did not allow whatever to affect you. If anything your story is a testimony of perserverence regardless of the bumby roads one has to endure.
One should always keep in mind: There are two sides to every story; then there's the truth. It's obvious Mr. Woods has experienced some personal issues with Craig Carse: maybe he's upset about playing time, maybe Mr. Woods was more interested in individual accolades than the "team" concept. Didn't Mr. Woods have the opportunity to play in a nationally televised NAIA national championship game at West Virginia State under the leadership of Craig Carse? Apparently, Carse was pushing the right buttons at West Virginia State in the mid-late 80's to drive his team to the national championship game. At LSU, did he not recruit the likes of Shaq, Chris Jackson, and Stanley Roberts? And out in "the sticks" of Montana, did he not guide his teams to NCAA tournaments, conference championships, and implement a unique style of offense? There isn't one coach out there who is appreciated by ALL his players.
Johnny, thanks for being the voice of reason here. When someone has an axe to grind and admits they have been grinding it publicly for years, one needs to question their motives as well as their character. When this person gives no proof whatsoever for ANY of their blasphemous claims, then their integrity should be questioned.
So to Mr. Woods, do you think that all of Bobby Knight’s players send him christmas cards? Your coach isn’t there to be your best friend. He’s not even there for you to like him. I certainly didn’t like Coach Carse when I was at his basketball camp in Salem some 27 years ago and he wouldn’t let me ice a turned ankle. But I appreciated the lesson he taught me later in life about pain and commitment. There have been times I have thought about quitting something or giving up on a commitment and I’m always taken back to that moment. Coach Carse taught me a life lesson that day, through basketball. I never played ball for him but was fortunate enough to watch his WV teams up close as I knew quite a few of his players. And I have to say that my perspective of him, and that of his players I knew personally, is very different than yours
Your vitriolic tirade appears to be nothing more than an unhealthy, obsessive vendetta against him. I would suggest that anyone reading this simply take the time to make up their own mind first hand and not base any impression on what they read here, good or bad.
My opinions of Craig Carse are basically my opinions based on being a member of his basketball program at West Virginia State College. I am not the only one who has a huge dislike for Carse. I just happen to be someone who has a blog and feels like writing about it. Many former teammates of mine also have a huge dislike for this man many others who I’ve never play ball with or against also have a huge dislike for this man. We live in a country where we have freedom of speech and I’m using my freedoms to the best of my ability. If I feel like I want to continue to write about old Craig Carse the fake basketball coach who has now drop all away down to coaching division III basketball then I will write about him anytime I feel like it.
