Detroit Lions safety Louis Delmas made a strong impression during his rookie season last year. He recorded 94 tackles and two interceptions, including one he returned 101 yards for a touchdown.
What makes Delmas as good as he is? Maybe it’s the passion with which he approaches the game. During pregame introductions for the Lions’ game against the Browns last weekend (otherwise noteworthy for Ndamukong Suh’s Delhomme headlock), Delmas was jumping around like a wild man, trying to get the crowd into it – and it was only the preseason.
Of course, such enthusiasm can have collateral damage. In Suh’s case, the damage was nearly Delhomme’s head. In Delmas’ case: for the pregame introductions, the Lions were running through two lines of young children. Delmas didn’t realize how close they were and, well, check out the video:
Knowing that 1) the kids weren’t hurt and 2) Delmas felt bad about the whole thing…well, are we bad people if we say the video is kind of hilarious? We can’t blame Delmas for getting caught up in his enthusiasm when that’s exactly the sort of enthusiasm we want players to show, so bring it on, Louie…you just might want to check what’s behind you first.
