The ORANGE COUNTY (CA) REGISTER reported recently on a large, hillside brush fire that was somehow started by a golf shot.
The Shady Canyon Golf Course was the site of the blaze, which was first reported to the Orange County Fire Authority at midday on Saturday in Irvine, California.
Orange County Fire Authority Captain Greg McKeown noted to the Register that “the fire likely was sparked when a golfer – who knocked his golf ball into the grass that borders the fairway – struck a rock with his club trying to get the ball out of the rough.”

A 12-acre blaze was the result of that apparently accidental chip shot, which took 200 local firefighters over seven hours to contain.
