The Yankees are evil, and now they have gotten the Governor of New York in their clutches: David Paterson is finding himself in hot water over misleading information on how he obtained Yankee tickets for last year’s World Series.
Apparently there are those who think Paterson originally intended to use his gubernatorial status to get the tickets for free. They were eventually paid for, but the issue is that Paterson gave “misleading information” on how he obtained the tickets to the state Commission on Public Integrity.
For legal nuts, here’s a sample of Judge Judith Kaye’s report on the matter. Full report here.
“The evidence developed in the OAG’s investigation under the Independent Counsel warrants consideration of possible criminal charges by the District Attorney, who will make the ultimate decision regarding whether or not charges should be brought.”
The official charge would be perjury, but those are often hard to prove, according to David Grandeau, former head of the state’s lobbying commission. It did however, lead to this quote that summarizes how we all feel about politicians:
”If everyone in that Capitol who lies is going to be charged with perjury, the district attorney better hire a lot more prosecutors.”
$ 850 for a pair of Yankee tickets? Seems like he got a discount.
