We had to know this was coming – with Tiger Woods’ public humiliation apparently done with and his marriage to Elin Nordegren officially over, Nordegren shared her feelings on the split, and the events leading up to it, with People magazine.
She didn’t say anything surprising (she did say she “never suspected” any of Tiger’s affairs), but there are humanizing moments, like when she talks about how her daughter Sam realizing she was sad and asking, “Mommy, where is your boo-boo?” (Cue the awwwwwwwwwws.) There’s also this:
“I know [Tiger] is going to go down as the best golfer that ever lived, and rightfully so. I feel privileged to have witnessed a part of his golfing career.”
Notice she didn’t say she felt privileged to share part of her life with him – not that we blame her, since she said she’s “been through hell” since news of Tiger’s flings broke. Still, Nordegren said she initially wanted to save the marriage before deciding there was no possible way to.
Other items of note: she said she never attacked Tiger (“The speculation that I would have used a golf club to hit him is just truly ridiculous”), that the undisclosed but hefty sum of money she’s receiving in the settlement will be nice but won’t make up for the upheaval in her life, and that this is the only interview she’s planning on doing.
Considering her People interview apparently totaled 19 hours, one interview is probably enough. After months upon months of this story, we know it’s enough for us.
