The 59th pick is in and SB Nation’s Cowboys community, Blogging The Boys, has selected…
Illinois WR Arrelious Benn
Arrelious Benn fits the Cowboys’ WR profile to a T. He’s 6’2″, 220 lbs. and has run sub-4.5 40s lately. He’s a ferocious blocker, and he’s very tough to tackle when he has the ball in his hands. He has an all around game. Benn doesn’t display overwhelming deep speed, but his route running and elusiveness make him an economical version of Roy Williams, and in time, perhaps a superior version. He’s a steal this deep in the 2nd round.
This is a very good choice, for several reasons. 1) It would end Dallas’ long-suffering relationship with Roy Williams. 2) It would give the team a playmaker opposite Miles Austin and open the middle of the field even more for Jason Witten. 3) He wouldn’t be as expensive as Boldin.
Outstanding selection. The Cowboys are still fully committed to Tony Romo so it’s important he has weapons around him moving forward. In addition to that, as MTD points out, it would allow the Cowboys to move on from Roy Williams. No, I’m not suggesting he’s cut. But it’s becoming apparent that he may not be part of the long-term future so this gives the Cowboys option. Good job BTB.
